TUBATULABALS OF KERN VALLEY COUNCIL MEETING AT WHITE BLANKET ALOTTMENT (12/6/2003)
On December 6, 2003, Donna Begay and her mother, Leona Begay, traveled to Weldon, CA (non-federally recognized tribe) to meet with her Tubatulabals of Kern Valley. Donna was asked to speak about the U.S. Federal Government's federal recognition process.
Donna Begay is a member of the Tubatulabals and would like to see her tribe become federally recognized for the purposed of improved U.S. funded health, housing, education, employment and economic development opportunities. At this time, there are over 5 family public allotments of land that have several tribal members living on these properties in Kern Valley area. Most of the housing are trailer homes with no running water. There is some electricity and phone access but utilities are also major needs for the members of this tribe. Kern Valley is located 65 miles east of Bakersfield.
Donna’s tribe will need about
$500,000 to finish up the genealogy study for their final federation recognition
petition. For Tubatulabals of Kern Valley federal recognition effort’s
contribution – please contact Donna Begay at (916) 731-4561.
